The President of the European Parliament, Antonio Tajani, urged the EU countries to push for establishing refugee camps inside Libya.
In a press interview with the Italian newspaper, Il Giornale, on Thuesday, Tajani said the EU should be united to reach an agreement on the immigration issue in Libya similar to that signed with Turkey.
“On June 21, 2017, there will be a forum to raise awareness of the immigration issues in Libya at the EU Council.” Tajani added.
He also said that EU countries mus have a firm stand to fight and stop illegal immigration from Libya to Europe in an agreement similar to that in Turkey that led to the illegal immigration shrink by 90%.
Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi
The prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, ICC, on Wednesday called for the arrest and surrender of Saif Gaddafi.
Saif is wanted on war crimes charges for allegedly suppressing opposition to the rule of his father, former Libya ruler Muammar.
On Sunday, Saif’s lawyer said his client had been released under an amnesty law passed by parliament from prison in the eastern Libyan town of Zintan, where he had been held since 2011.
ICC prosecutor Fatou Bensouda in a statement called on Libya and other states to arrest Saif.
Saif Gaddafi was released by a Zintani armed group – Abu Bakir Al-Sidiq, days ago and his whereabouts are still unknown.
Some reports also said that Saif Gaddafi is staying with his uncles from his mother’s side in Tobruk, eastern Libya.
Saif was pardoned by the eastern government as per an amnesty law last April.
